War Panda Radio rebranding

Even before the latest “burn the witch” campaign — the witch this time being AI — I’d already been thinking about changing the name of the podcast. There were a few reasons, but the main one was confusion.
People kept getting the wrong idea. Was it a tech show? Was it some kind of AI demo? Or worse… one of those lifeless robot voices reading bedtime stories into the void. It wasn’t any of that, but the name didn’t exactly help.
After a few weeks of going back and forth (and probably overthinking it more than necessary), I landed on War Panda Radio.
And that one just felt right.
For me, it taps into something older — the idea of sitting around listening to stories on a crackly radio on a Sunday afternoon. Now, I’m not quite old enough to remember the true golden age of radio, but I’ve always liked the idea of it… where voices, sound effects, and a bit of imagination could build entire worlds without a single screen in sight.
Things like War of the Worlds, Dick Barton, later The Goon Show, and even The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — all slightly odd, slightly unhinged, and very human. That’s the lane this podcast sits in, whether I planned it that way or not.
Changing the name has genuinely given me a bit of a lift. Sounds daft, but it has. I’ve found myself more focused, more up for it — and finally pushing properly into Episode 9. In this one, our slightly dysfunctional crew are trying to track down Lady Deadheart… and we meet a new character called LambNix. No prizes for guessing what he is.
Now, the practical side of all this…
I can’t change the name everywhere overnight. Some platforms will update quickly, others will lag behind, and a few — like the RSS feed — might not change at all without breaking things. And after already switching hosts from RSS.com to Podbean (which podcast apps handled… let’s say grumpily), I’m not keen to poke that bear again.
So for a while, things might look a bit inconsistent depending on where you’re listening. Same show — just evolving.
Anyway, Episode 9 will be out no later than May 10th.
I’ll write again once it’s live.
Take care, Warpers.
All the best,
Aric
